How to use it
Make the command earn its place.
Use the style or production brief to describe this sound. Specify the instrument, voice or texture it should affect; a bracketed label is not a guaranteed control. Keep a small set of compatible directions and separate them from the words to be sung.
Intended effect
Give the rhythm a stable low foundation with selective melodic movement.
Limitations
A bass instrument cue cannot enforce an exact part or mix level. Too much movement can compete with the lead melody.
A useful comparison
Compare root-note support with passing notes and judge whether the vocal still leads.
If removing the tag would not change the intended energy, voice, texture or arrangement, it is probably not adding useful direction.
