[Breakdown]

Strips back instruments to drums/bass.

Usage example
[Chorus]
One more light along the platform
[Breakdown]
[Drums and bass only]
[Final Chorus]
One more light along the platform

How to use it

Make the command earn its place.

Use the style or production brief to describe this sound. Specify the instrument, voice or texture it should affect; a bracketed label is not a guaranteed control. Keep a small set of compatible directions and separate them from the words to be sung.

Intended effect

Create contrast by stripping the arrangement back before the final return.

Limitations

A breakdown can mean a sparse dance passage or a heavy half-time section. State the instrumentation and rhythmic intent.

A useful comparison

Compare a drums-and-bass break with a half-time heavy break; judge the transition into the final chorus.

Specificity check

If removing the tag would not change the intended energy, voice, texture or arrangement, it is probably not adding useful direction.

Using this guidance

Examples describe a musical intention. They are not guarantees that a generator will follow every cue. Keep your lyrics and settings fixed, change one direction at a time, and save the prompt, model/version and result you compare.

Editorial review: 5 September 2026. No model-specific generation test is claimed for these examples.
